Our latest adventures!!

As I mentioned in the last post, I've tried to do a lot of things with Tiny this summer. I wanted her to be extra stimulated, mostly for her but partially so I don't feel like a slacker of a parent! Here's a breakdown of our most recent adventures.
August 31st- An adventure in self-feeding.
Yeah, this was something else! :-) I was reading in several different places that between 8and 9 months, you should start letting your kiddo try to use the spoon to feed themselves. Naturally, being the slacker that I am, Tiny was 10.5 months old before I ever tried this....and I don't know if we'll do it again anytime soon. She was SO messy!!! She got the concept of the spoon, she would hold it correctly and put the right end in her mouth but she didn't get the concept of picking up food with it. She'd put it in her mouth, take it out and look at it seeming to think "Why is there no food in my mouth?" and she would proceed to pick up a handful of food and shove it in her mouth all while the spoon is held nicely in the other hand. *sigh* She'll get it eventually I'm sure. :-) I actually loved watching her try to figure things out, despite the clean up that was required afterwards. Eric had a harder time....he's not a fan of messes and who can blame him?
September 1st- Murray Park with Grandma Sue
Tiny and I were so excited to finally get to spend a day with Grandma Sue. Grandma is very busy with life and her kids so we don't get very much time with her but we sure do love the time we get! Grandma called me that morning and told me she had some time so we decided to take Tiny to Murray park, since I hadn't taken her there yet. She loved it! She explored the playground, went down the slide, tried to eat the bark chips, went on the swings, and played in the water. And Sue and I got to catch up, which is always wonderful. She's such an amazing lady and so special to me. I'm truly blessed to have her, I cannot imagine what my life would be like without her. Tiny is so lucky to have her as a "Grandma", she'll never be lacking for love as long as Sue's around and I'm eternally grateful to her for that!
September 4-5- Labor Day Camping Disaster
Yeah....the title pretty much says it. Eric and I were really excited to be able to get a camping trip in before it got too cold. We both love camping and were sad that we hadn't gone sooner. So we got all ready to go Sunday night into Monday over Labor Day weekend. It took us awhile to get up and going and pick up the things we need to and pack the truck and all of that so we ended up not getting to our campsite (Our very most favorite place up at the top of American Fork canyon) until an hour or so before sundown. We got our big tent sent up, which took awhile and by then Tiny was awake and ta Tanka was driving us crazy! We started to get settled in the tent and we knew Tiny was hungry but she wouldn't eat, she wanted to explore outside the tent which, since she can't walk and it was getting dark, we were unable to let her do a whole lot of. Apparently this ruined the whole experience for her and she decided that she would do the same for us. She really didn't sleep more than 30 minutes at a time all night and we couldn't let her cry it out because there were other campers really close to us. So every time she woke up we got her up and laid her with us and she wanted to talk and play and move around. It was a nightmare. On top of that, ta Tanka was trying to escape from the tent all night long as well and he finally succeed about 8:30am. One of the million times Tiny was up, probably around 12 or 1, Eric was ready to just take us all home and drive all the way back up the next morning because we couldn't handle it anymore. Ugh!! Looking back on it though, we'll know more what to expect and how to prepare IF we do it again! :-)
Tiny and I also had an adventure with Auntie Bethers but I'll have to get the pics from her before I post about that.
Next blog update will be about our day at the fair!! Stay tuned....it might take me a month or so. HA!
And just for kicks, this video Eric shot of Tiny one night.
